May 6:
“Centering the Clay”
Rev. Bonnie Devlin will speak.
May is a wonderful month where we celebrate the fruits of spring and the mothering of all life. Like a potter who handles the fruits of the earth – the clay of life – centering the clay not only requires great skill, but a genuine desire to create something of beauty, meaning and purpose. This is a fitting metaphor for our lives, as we hopefully strive to create those things in our lives. Without beauty, meaning and purpose, why then are we here? Surely not to live out a mean existence. Let’s gather to celebrate the joy of creation, of spring and of the birthing potential within us all.
May 13:
“Mother's Day”
Lead by Lisa Bohn, DRE, and members and friends of the Religious Education program.
Come together to celebrate Mothers, Motherhood and the Mother within all of us.
May 20:
“God Is Too Big For One Religion”
Rev. Bonnie Devlin will speak.
On May 22 of 2011, I stood in a simple pulpit in a small, concrete and damaged church in the fields of Leogane, Haiti—the epi-center of the tragic earthquake - where so many of you, and members of our Florida District sent me to bring an Interfaith and Unitarian Universalist message of good will and shared hope for a better future. I thought about the ‘Charter for Compassion’ project and decided to craft a sermon on ‘The Golden Rule’, something which is common to ALL major faith traditions, and which I wanted to share with this Christian congregation in Haiti. Today, close to this one-year anniversary, I would like to share with you this sermon (with some elaborations), and (if the technology ‘gods and goddesses’ are willing), to share a DVD of the actual service in Kreyol from the church that day, after the service!
May 27:
“Every Family Deserves a Healthy Start in Life”
Luz Corcuera, Program Director for Healthy Start Coalition of Manatee County, will speak.
She will speak on their programs, some of the difficulties families face, and how we address them, as well as the social issues surrounding them.
