President's Message

President’s Message

January/February 2012

I hope everyone had a bountiful Thanksgiving.  Soon Christmas, Hanukah, Winter Solstice will be upon us.  Whatever you celebrate, may it be merry and bright.  Then on to the New Year where each can find peace and joy in all that you do.

To start the new year out right, we have purchased a sturdy new step stool.  Please use this to reach high places.  It is not safe to stand in a chair, and standing in the chairs is breaking them.  Let's aim for an accident free year and no more broken chair seats.

There now is a motion sensitive light over the deck.  After it gets dark, the light will come on when anyone walks up the back ramp or enters the deck.

The Worship Committee is up and running under the direction of Lorraine Berry.  Other members are: Ann Rogers and Zed Kesner-Music,  Becky Smith-former Sunday speaker head, Rev. Bonnie-minister.  If you have any information about speakers for Sunday, musicians, or other matters for Sunday Service, please contact Lorraine Berry.

Holiday decorations were under the direction of Kim Gardner and Leslie Roell.  The few people who showed up did a remarkable job in just a few hours.  Next year, we must have a decorating party to get more people involved.

The southern UU Leadership Experience is in February in Orlando.  We want to send a team of three interested folks from our congregations.  This is a great few days learning about the working of a church from services to management of daily problems.  Please see me soon if you are interested in this and I can give you much more information.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE NEWS

I want to share with each member of MUUF the goals of your MEMBERSHIP team.

#1    Increase the number of TEAM members from the current 5 (Ed Kobee, Pat Rohrer, Walter Pascal, Geoff Graham, Kim Gardner) to 12 by the end of April

#2   Continue our outreach to Parrish, Ellenton & Anna Maria. Since your Futures group has learned that our present location truly is the hub of the wheel we need more outreach.

#3    Reach the Boomers. We need new younger families with children as your survey reported our RE is of special importance to you.

#4    YOU PERSONALLY emphasize making visitors feel welcome. Mention the share a dish (now the 2nd Friday).   Help visitors understand the various sign up sheets.

#5    Notify Maggie (office), Grace and Kim whenever YOU hear of a change in a member's status (be it by moving, resigning or death).

To each of you, if you have taken the time to read this, you can be one of the readers who get’s our team from a low 5 to a far healthier 12.

Thank you all!!

Kim Gardner, Chair
